The Return Of Andrew The Intern

Posted on March 26, 2008 by Mike Quick

Filed Under: Andrew the Intern , Gene Golda , High School , Mike Quick

We last said goodbye to Andrew the Intern in January, but he just couldn't stay away.

Now with VH1, Andrew is back to fill us in on what he's been up to these days.

Apparently, working over at VH1 has added it's toll (and some weight) on young Andrew, but they obviously didn't teach him how to clip on a mic.

Take a look.

Part II: Gene Golda backs up his Federation predictions.
Part III: Gene, Andrew and I analyze more matchups.
Part IV: According to Andrew, there's no one like us at VH1.
Part V: National rankings? I could care less.

Congratulations go out to Gene Golda and his wife Jamie on the birth of their first child, Dominic Joseph, at 4:15 pm at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ.

Dominic weighed in at a healthy 7.2 pounds. Best wishes, buddy.

Rocking Out With Gene Golda's Band, Saying Goodbye To Andrew The Intern

OK, I'm back, and do we have a fun three-part vlog to kick off 2008.

In part one here, Gene and I talk about his "award-winning" band, "Awful". And you even get to see why they are called that!

All right everyone, I have some terrible news, today is Andrew the Intern's final day with us (cry). So in this part, I give Andrew the opportunity to talk about what he learned and what he'll miss about working here at MSG. I tell you, we won't miss him (actually we will a little, he was a pretty good intern).

I got a good story for you in this one. You see, I got a little sick during the Nike Super 6 Tournament and... well just watch it to find out exactly what happened.

Alright, I don't have a lot of time to write this entry, but here's a quick overview of what to expect.

We're shifting gears from football to basketball on High School Weekly and I'm working on piecing together three shows in three days, starting with the Girls Tri-State Basketball Preview Show, airing Christmas night at 10:30 p.m. on MSG.

I have one of the best editors working with me in Ray Nader to give you unprecedented access into the inner workings of my edit sessions.

Football And Christmas Trees

It's mid-December, so what's better to talk about than football and Christmas. Answer: NOTHING. So, in this four-parter today we have for you, Gene, Jimmy and I, along with a new intern (not Andrew) talk both.

To get it started, Golda, Cavallo and I talk about the nice thing Don Bosco coach Greg Toal did for us, then we dip into some e-mails.

In this segment here, we continue the long-standing debate over catholic vs. public high school football.

OK, with Christmas less than two weeks away, you've got to have your tree already. Well, I got mine this past weekend in Connecticut and, boy, it was an adventure to get it.

Speaking of Christmas trees, it turns out that one of our interns' family runs a Christmas tree farm in Massachusetts. No, it's not Andrew. Introducing, Dan the intern, who stops by to tell us all about the family business.

Still Talking Football

The football season may be over, but Gene, Jimmy and I still have a lot to talk about. So let's get to some more high school football chatter.

Every year at the end of the high school football season, we have our Heisman All-Star breakfast. Well, this year we didn't have it.

Gene, Jimmy and I discuss how difficult it was to not celebrate this special day with the players and coaches.

We then thumbed through a ton of your e-mails. And man, were you guys tough on us.

The Season That Was

It's very frustrating when you show up to cover a game and security puts you through the ringer before allowing you in to do your job.

But that didn't stop Gene Golda and I from seeing our PSAL Snapple Football Student Athlete of the Year, Dominick LeGrande, lead Curtis High School to the NYC Championship, 22-16 over Canarsie, on a snow-covered field to wrap up the 2007 football season.

A Visit From Sam Rosen; Looking Back At Predictions

Another day, another vlog. Solid two-parter for you.

First, Sam Rosen joins the crew to talk about his baseball playing days at Stuyvesant High School in New York City. Rosen a baseball player, huh? You learn something new everyday.

Then Gene, Jimmy and I look back at our predictions for the season. Man, were they terrible.

Breaking Down The Final Poll

After yesterday's laugher, it's time to get down to business.

In today's entry, Gene Golda, Jimmy Cavallo and I get into a spirited debate about our final high school football poll.

(Look out for another Al Trautwig sighting)

Getting Ready For Thanksgiving

If you liked the last vlog (and I know you did), you're going to love this one.

This whole high school vlog stuff is going great. Everyone is loving it, including the President of this network, who sent out a memo Monday on how much he likes the vlog.

Well, Thursday is Thanksgiving, and of course it's a big day for football. There's a ton, I mean a ton to talk about, so I pulled out all the stops and brought in everybody for this one.

Let's get to it.

In Part 1, Jimmy Cavallo, Andrew the Intern, and Gerald the Security Guard join me to discuss what's going down for Thanksgiving. Then new-comer Al Trautwig stops by to give his take on the vlog.

Here in Part 2, Jimmy and Andrew give an update on the search for the perfect turkey for the Thanksgiving trophy.

OK, now Part 3 is a big one. It seems we are going to run into a little scheduling problem for the New Jersey State Championship games. Jimmy and I have the lowdown on that, plus we respond to e-mails from Jose, a Xavier alumnus, and Christian, a Darien alumnus.

For the final segment, Gene Golda joins me to talk about his "celebrity" status, not having a High School Weekly Thanksgiving Day Special and who has the better fans, St. Peter's or Don Bosco.

No More Predictions For Me

It's playoff time in a bunch of divisions in both New York and New Jersey. I saw a lot of great games this past weekend, and this upcoming weekend the games are going to be even better.

One thing I'm not going to do in this v-log, however, is make any predictions on these contests. You'll see why.

Hitting Staten Island And Jersey

OK, so maybe Mike Quick was right about tabbing St. Anthony's as the No. 10 team in the tri-state.

This weekend I was all over Staten Island and New Jersey to see some great football action. Find out what I saw in the latest episode of the vlog:

C'mon Quick, St. Anthony's In The Top-10?

Posted on October 16, 2007 by Gene Golda

Mike Quick put out his new tri-state Top-10 Poll Monday, and while I agree with him that Middletown South deserves to get the boot from the poll after its loss this weekend, I don't agree with moving St. Anthony's into the No. 10 spot.

There are a few teams that are more deserving than St. Anthony's. Want to know which ones? Check out the video:

It's All About Great QBs And Fantastic Games

Today is my man, Jimmy Cavallo's birthday. So, Happy Birthday buddy.

It was a great weekend in the Tri-State. We saw some unbelievable quarterback performances out in Long Island and some incredible games in the Catholic League.

Over in Jersey, Middletown South lost to Toms River North in OT, so they got the boot from the Top-10.

Get the lowdown on all the action from this weekend by checking out the New Balance High School Weekly presented by MaxPreps Tuesday at 10:30 on MSG. And get a sneak peek of what we'll be covering by watching this v-log thing.

Great Weekend Around The Tri-State

Well I tell ya, Gene Golda, Jimmy Cavallo and the rest of the team that works on high school sports at MSG are simply great.

But you know what? I couldn't get anybody to join me for the vlog this time. They all wanted to leave. So, I'll just recap the incredible weekend in the Tri-State all by myself.

Make sure you watch New Balance High School Weekly presented by MaxPreps on Tuesday at 10:30 for all the great highlights from this weekend.

It was such an unbelievable weekend in high school football and we are getting some great comments from you fans, so I'm giving you guys two video blogs this time.

Don Bosco Prep remains No. 1 in the Tri-State, but there was some movement in our Top-10 Poll this week.

Here, Gene Golda joins me to discuss the crazy weekend in the New York-Long Island Catholic High School Football League, and a very special guest calls in to review your comments:

This weekend was also very sad because high school sports lost a great man. News 12 Connecticut Sports Director Bill Gonillo passed away on Sunday. I'll tell you this, there was nobody better than the Big Man and Connecticut high school sports will never be the same. This is for you buddy:

Apparently, you fans out there are loving this blog thing.  Sounds great to me.

No Gerald the Security Guard today, but I got Gene Golda back with me to discuss New Rochelle’s win over John Jay and what we’re covering this weekend for the next New Balance High School Weekly presented by MaxPreps.

Talking Jersey Public And Long Island With Golda

Posted on September 17, 2007 by Mike Quick

Filed Under: Elizabeth , Football , Gene Golda , High School , Middletown South , Mike Quick , New Brunswick , St. Anthony's , St. Joseph by the Sea , Wayne Hills

It's Week 2 and Don Bosco Prep remains No.1 on our Top-10 tri-state poll.

Guys, great stuff with the comments. Keep 'em coming, I love it.

We got one from Johnny Neumann last week and he says we don't pay enough attention to the great public high school programs in New Jersey.

Neumann, you're nuts!

So I brought Gene Golda in for this one to discuss a little Jersey public, and while I got him, some of the best schools on Long Island.

Also watch Geno and Jimmy Cavallo's recap of the Game of the Week between Hudson Catholic and Elizabeth right here.
