Also in this episode, I chat with highly-dedicated production assistant Matt Carson about working at MSG. So if you want to work in sports, have a listen to all the cool stuff he does here.
It's mid-December, so what's better to talk about than football and Christmas. Answer: NOTHING. So, in this four-parter today we have for you, Gene, Jimmy and I, along with a new intern (not Andrew) talk both.
To get it started, Golda, Cavallo and I talk about the nice thing Don Bosco coach Greg Toal did for us, then we dip into some e-mails.
In this segment here, we continue the long-standing debate over catholic vs. public high school football.
OK, with Christmas less than two weeks away, you've got to have your tree already. Well, I got mine this past weekend in Connecticut and, boy, it was an adventure to get it.
Speaking of Christmas trees, it turns out that one of our interns' family runs a Christmas tree farm in Massachusetts. No, it's not Andrew. Introducing, Dan the intern, who stops by to tell us all about the family business.
Another day, another vlog. Solid two-parter for you.
First, Sam Rosen joins the crew to talk about his baseball playing days at Stuyvesant High School in New York City. Rosen a baseball player, huh? You learn something new everyday.
Then Gene, Jimmy and I look back at our predictions for the season. Man, were they terrible.
Tons of state championship games were played this weekend, and while there were some great ones and plenty of football to talk about, we are going to start off this segment on a lighter, funnier note.
There's plenty of laughs in this four-parter, but be sure to check back tomorrow when we get down to some serious business and talk about Don Bosco's dominance and the rest of the weekend's action.
First up, Jimmy Cavallo and I get the ball rolling by talking about how cold it was at the games this weekend. Then Al Trautwig, once again, invades our set.
Here, we chat about Al's high school in Connecticut before Cavallo ends it by making us all crack up. You have to see this.
We bring back Andrew the Intern again so he can tell us about how he tried out, but failed to make his high school basketball team and any impact on American Idol.
And finally, Andrew gets one more shot to showcase his singing abilities.
Cavallo and I have another two-part installment of the vlog for you today.
We are a week removed from the big Thanksgiving game between Greenwich and Staples, and we received some great feedback about the game. So, we decided to go over some of the e-mails and also talk about the good and the bad of what happened to the much-hyped Turkey trophy.
In one of the 19 New Jersey State Title games this week, Wayne Hills meets up with Wayne Valley. The big guy and I respond to an e-mail that claims we don't give enough respect to No. 3 Wayne Hills. Also in Part Two, we discuss what's on tap for the next High School Weekly and read a very nice e-mail I received from a player's mother.
It's time for another vlog, so Jimmy Cavallo and I start chatting it up, talking about what we did for Thanksgiving and reading over some e-mails, and along comes Gus Johnson.
After Al Trautwig last week, everybody wants to get in on the fun. So Gus busts into my office and takes over for Jimmy. Check it all out in this three-part installment.
We're getting down to the end of the high school football season with just 26 games remaining in the Tri-State. While there are 19 championship games in New Jersey, there is only ONE game to decide the best team from a public school in New York City - the PSAL Championship game.
Now, MSG has aired this great contest for years, but this year, we are not going to be able to show the game on the network because of a serious scheduling problem.
Jimmy Cavallo and I are extremely upset, and in this two-part vlog, we talk about why we can't air the championship game and what we'll show in its place on Sunday's Snapple Game of the Week ... it's a big one.
If you liked the last vlog (and I know you did), you're going to love this one.
This whole high school vlog stuff is going great. Everyone is loving it, including the President of this network, who sent out a memo Monday on how much he likes the vlog.
Well, Thursday is Thanksgiving, and of course it's a big day for football. There's a ton, I mean a ton to talk about, so I pulled out all the stops and brought in everybody for this one.
Let's get to it.
In Part 1, Jimmy Cavallo, Andrew the Intern, and Gerald the Security Guard join me to discuss what's going down for Thanksgiving. Then new-comer Al Trautwig stops by to give his take on the vlog.
Here in Part 2, Jimmy and Andrew give an update on the search for the perfect turkey for the Thanksgiving trophy.
OK, now Part 3 is a big one. It seems we are going to run into a little scheduling problem for the New Jersey State Championship games. Jimmy and I have the lowdown on that, plus we respond to e-mails from Jose, a Xavier alumnus, and Christian, a Darien alumnus.
For the final segment, Gene Golda joins me to talk about his "celebrity" status, not having a High School Weekly Thanksgiving Day Special and who has the better fans, St. Peter's or Don Bosco.
Boy, do we have a treat for you today! It's high school football playoff time, and Jimmy Cavallo and I are all fired up! So we have a jam-packed, monumental, four-part vlog packed with a barrel of laughs.
Great stuff in this one. I got an e-mail from this guy Walt Krauchick, and he says we don't cover Ansonia. Ha! A few weeks ago Jimmy did a piece on the show profiling Chargers' standout RB Alex Thomas. If you missed it, CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT. So in Part Three, Cavallo and I dish on that and also talk about this year's Turkey Trophy for the winner of the Greenwich and Staples Thanksgiving Day game.
And you have to watch the finale as we discuss the disaster that was the St. Dominic basketball fund-raising event and the upcoming showdown between Bergen Catholic and St. Peter's.
I am joined by Bob Lalwani, producer of Snapple Game of the Week, who discusses the logistics of the show which airs this week from the North Rockland-New Rochelle matchup. In other games to watch this weekend, the courage award goes to Delbarton QB Brian McMahon, who with the Green Wave takes on St. Joseph's Regional in Bergen County.
OK, no Mike Quick, no Gene Golda, I run the show now. Ah, my first ever vlog. I'm excited. Actually, I have a two-parter for all you high school football fans.
In part 1, I'm joined by fan favorite Gerald the Security to discuss why yours truly is the only person on MSG who doesn't get any fan mail! (What's that about?)
In Part 2 I talk about a piece I'm working on for High School Weekly about these five great quarterbacks out on Long Island.
We're pulling out all the stops here. I got my buddies Jimmy Cavallo and Gerald the Security Guard to join me for a monumental three-parter today, and baby we are fired up about everything.
In part 2, we respond to an e-mail from a guy complaining that MSG did not air St. Anthony's vs. Chaminade as the Snapple Game of the Week:
And in the grand finale, Cavallo, Gerald and I go crazy over terrible radio traffic reports, the Alex Rodriguez situation and HS football games being cancelled because of the weather:
Today is my man, Jimmy Cavallo's birthday. So, Happy Birthday buddy.
It was a great weekend in the Tri-State. We saw some unbelievable quarterback performances out in Long Island and some incredible games in the Catholic League.
Over in Jersey, Middletown South lost to Toms River North in OT, so they got the boot from the Top-10.
Get the lowdown on all the action from this weekend by checking out the New Balance High School Weekly presented by MaxPreps Tuesday at 10:30 on MSG. And get a sneak peek of what we'll be covering by watching this v-log thing.
Alright folks, another two-video blog special today.
It never ceases to amaze me when I get e-mails from people who complain that we don't cover their state or their school on the New Balance High School Weekly. Listen, we cover Tri-State high school football like no other.
I recently got an e-mail from this guy trying to say we don't give enough of our time to Don Bosco Prep, even though they are the No.1 team in our poll. I had to bring Jimmy Cavallo in to discuss this one.
And as an added bonus, check out Andrew the intern trying (the key word here being try) to be funny.
Well I tell ya, Gene Golda, Jimmy Cavallo and the rest of the team that works on high school sports at MSG are simply great.
But you know what? I couldn't get anybody to join me for the vlog this time. They all wanted to leave. So, I'll just recap the incredible weekend in the Tri-State all by myself.
I'm getting some great comments on this blog and great emails. I love the passion you guys have for high school football.
Lot going on, so for this one I'm all over the map talking about everything from Jimmy Cavallo and his Snapple Game of the Week commericals to Long Island football.
Thanks for the comments, folks. It doesn't matter whether they're positive or negative, I answer them all, so keep 'em coming.
As a matter of fact, I have a response for Don Kraper, who suggested I pick up a book and turn on CNN: You must not be following your own advice if you took the time out to respond to my video blog thing.
Anyway, Jimmy Cavallo joins me this time to fill you in on a packed weekend and also to let you know what to expect on the next edition of High School Weekly.
